Clean Every Whit
Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash
his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean...
- John 13:10

When my mom was a little girl, the last thing she did before going
to bed was to wash her feet. It didn't matter that she had had a
complete bath earlier--those feet had to be washed.
This was back before automatic washers and dryers. Clothes were
washed in a wringer washing machine, then hung outside on a clothes
line to dry. And don't forget the ironing once they were dry. No
wonder wash day was known as Blue Monday!
Because washing and ironing sheets was a much bigger ordeal than it
is today, they were protected and kept clean for as long as possible.
Thus the feet were washed just before climbing into bed.
After the Last Supper, Jesus washed the disciples feet. There's much
to be learned from this, like humility and serving but I would like
to
focus on another aspect of it. First Peter tells Jesus that He
shall never wash his feet. And Jesus replies, "If I wash thee not, thou
hast no part with me." Peter then says, "Lord, not my feet only, but also
my hands
and my head." ( A total bath?) "Jesus saith to him, He that is washed
needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are
clean..." (John 13:8-10)
Once we are washed in the Blood of Jesus we are spiritually clean. As
we live and walk in this fallen world we get our feet dirty. We need
to daily go to Jesus and have Him wash away the dust and grime that clings
to us as we journey through this sinful world. Just as my mom washed her
feet before going to bed each night, let's be sure we wash our spiritual
feet daily.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and
to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
